Total Knee Replacement Surgeon in Las Vegas
Knee replacement is a very successful surgery. It usually takes Dr. Kang 1.5 hours and you are in the hospital for two days. After the surgery, you go home with home health which consists of a nurse and a therapist who come and see you on alternate days for two weeks. Following the two weeks of home physical therapy you begin outpatient physical therapy. After four weeks of outpatient physical therapy you are usually walking around without a walker. Some people use a cane and some people don’t use anything at all. Twelve weeks after surgery, Dr. Kang releases you to any activity that you want to do (skiing, bowling, golfing).
What are the downsides of Knee Replacement Surgery?
- 1% risk of infection. We keep the risk down by giving you antibiotics before and after surgery
- 1% risk of a blood clot. We give you blood thinners after surgery and encourage you to move quickly after surgery. The sooner you move and the more active you are the less likely you are to have a blood clot.
If order to decrease the likely hood of getting an infection we need the skin to heal. We encourage a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables and protein. It is also very important to have a nutritious diet leading up to surgery.
